A Rule of Thumb for Knowing If Your Top Is Too Low-Cut for Work

8:46:00 PM

We can all agree that deciding what to wear to work—and what's appropriate—is one of the more stressful moments during the early morning rush to the office. That's why we seek advice from the pros, and by pros we mean our co-founders, Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power, who just published a helpful guide on the subject.

The Career Code: Must-Know Rules for a Strategic, Stylish, and Self-Made Career tackles the workwear question head-on, providing helpful tips on what is and isn't appropriate. For button-down tops, the rule is as follows: "Stick to shirts with necklines no more than four inches from our collarbones. It's easy enough to figure out; just place your pointer finger horizontally along your collarbone and put the rest of your palm on your décolletage. The bottom of your pinky will be about four inches below your collarbone; this is exactly as low as your necklines should ever hit."

Hear that? It's the sound of your morning routine getting just a little bit easier.
