You can always rely on Alexa Chung to be the first celebrity to put a fresh spin on staple pieces, i.e. sneakers. When Chung stepped out for a stroll in New York yesterday, looking as stylish as ever in her Reformation dress (which she opted to wear backward, naturally), we couldn't help but notice her kicks. We identified them immediately as fashion-girl–favorite sneaker brand Superga, but it was the silver rings looped into them that really kept us guessing.

We did a little digging to find that they're a pair of septum ring–adorned all-black sneakers from the brand's collaboration with London-based designer Ashley Williams. The collection is sadly only available for purchase in the UK, but you can DIY a pair yourself by shopping the below sneakers and faux septum rings and simply looping them through the laces' holes. Given Chung's trendsetting ways, this may be the start of a sneaker-decorating brigade (we love the look of pins attached to canvas sneakers too). 

Believe it or not, septum ring–inspired accessories are undoubtedly having a moment in the fashion world. The current most Instagram-worthy It bag features an oversize septum piercing–inspired detail on the flap, which is right in step with fall's goth trend (get ready).
