Dads might be the main demographic for Hawaiian shirts, but that didn't stop Diane Kruger from stepping out in the retro staple—and making it look downright chic. (After all, it wouldn't be the first time dads sparked a trend—see the "dad hat" phenomenon for proof.) 

Kruger was photographed in New York City on Saturday, which was the day after her 40th birthday. While you could certainly pair a Hawaiian shirt with slouchy jeans for a borrowed-from-the-boys look, we love how Kruger added a feminine touch to the staple by pairing it with an itty-bitty miniskirt, flatform sandals, and a classic Chanel bag.
