Ashley Graham's Inspiring Essay: "I Am More Than My Measurements"
1:26:00 PMListen up: Ashley Graham has a powerful message for online critics and body shamers. She wrote an inspiring essay for Lena Dunham's Lenny Letter, in which she details the extent of the judgement she's faced as a model—from both ends of the spectrum. "When I post a photo from a 'good angle,' I receive criticism for looking smaller and selling out," she wrote. "When I post photos showing my cellulite, stretch marks, and rolls, I'm accused of promoting obesity. The cycle of body-shaming needs to end. I'm over it."
She goes on to mention specific comments she's received about her body, highlighting the disheartening and rapidly growing trend of online bullying. But Graham is determined to put an end to it once and for all. "I am more than my measurements," she wrote in her essay. "I'm not Ashley Graham just because I'm curvy...But now my career has given me a platform to use my voice to make a difference. We can't create change until we recognize and check our own actions." Amen to that. Head over to Lenny Letter to read her essay in full.
