We’ve trained ourselves to be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to the designs of Demna Gvasalia. Not only with regards to the impressively influential Vetements, but now Balenciaga; the fashion house where he took creative control starting just last season.

For his S/S 17 catwalk at Balenciaga, Gvasalia sent an army of moody models swathed in a peculiar and unexpected fabric: spandex. We have to admit, the texture conjures thoughts of 80s workout videos (Vogue even mentioned the stretchy fabric has been shunned in high fashion for many years), however we’re not surprised that the execution was incredibly cool and no doubt destined for the streets.
