SJP Was a Street Style Fan Way Before She Became Carrie Bradshaw
2:36:00 PMThere’s perhaps no better backdrop for a Sarah Jessica Parker photograph as a New York City skyline. So naturally that’s exactly where she found herself for the cover shoot of InStyle’s January 2017 issue. And while SJP will always be a quintessential New Yorker and fashion icon in our eyes, in this feature she’s also setting some records straight about her real buyer’s habits and what style meant to her before she was synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw.
“I dress based on what I have. I’m not a huge shopper,” Parker told InStyle’s new EIC, Laura Brown, in the issue. “I have a pretty standard wardrobe, though I’ve got wonderful shoes.” And much like ourselves, the current Divorce star and footwear entrepreneur also divulged how she once looked to the streets to find her inspiration long before social media was a thing.
“Street imagery and girls on the subway more than anything,” were her influences, she says. “I was like, ‘How can I do that? How can I afford to do that? What’s my version of that?’ Honestly, thrift stores played such a huge part in my life before Sex and the City.”
The full interview will be available once the issue hits newsstands on December 9, but you can take a peek at what to expect from the newest photos of NYC's forever fashion girl below.
