This Love-It or Hate-It Trend Is Sticking Around Until Next Fall

Corsets have been trending for a while now. As far back as last summer we were predicting that the somewhat restricting and figure-defining piece would see a big return. And as we now sense from the latest collection from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, the style is not going away any time soon. And in fact, you may be more tempted than ever to try it.

While athleisure clothing (i.e.: comfortable, practical, and usually a bit loose-fit) has been such a dominating trend over the last several years, it kind of makes sense that silhouettes are now taking such a shift. But make no mistake: The coolest way to wear one, as per the design duo of Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, is not à la the Victorian Era—it’s worn hugging chunky knits, as a layer underneath an oversized oxford shirt, or cinching a baggier dresses. In this way, the piece is a bit less obviously figure-defining, gives less of a boudoir-dressing type of look, and, we can assume, might even be more comfortable to wear. But if you can't say from experience yet, just hang on— fall 2017 is not all that far away.
