This Fashion Girl–Loved T-Shirt Line Just Teamed Up With Man Repeller
1:53:00 PMTo say that tee-and-sweatshirt line Monogram has a sense of humor would be an understatement. Helmed by designers and married couple Lisa Mayock and Jeff Halmos, the label launched last year with cheeky alternatives for girls who live in soft, vintage tees (and would rather not wear plain, white ones). Its styles feature tongue-in-cheek phrases and graphic yet minimal designs. So when Monogram set out to create its first collaboration project, Man Repeller Leandra Medine fit the bill.
“We have been longtime fans of Leandra’s and admire her point of view, singular and spirited approach to dressing, and, of course, her sense of humor,” Mayock told us. “She’s really the ideal Monogram woman in so many ways.”
The results of the collaboration are two styles: one with a Man Repeller logo being cut with a fork and knife à la a steak, the other a fruitcake. “When we first sat down to brainstorm with Leandra, it all started with the concept of an inanimate object printed really large on the front of a bright pink T-shirt,” says Mayock. “The three of us talked about how much we love ’70s food photography and landed on the fruitcake. It feels nonsequitur, witty, and colorful, and I can’t wait to have it on my body.” As for the utensils, Mayock calls them “a metaphor for Leandra’s loyal fans who devour Man Repeller content with ferocity.”
