Given the avant-garde tone of this year's Met Gala, we were expecting to see a slew of experimental, forward looks, especially from the models in attendance, who often stick to each year's theme the most literally. When you think of Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger, "avant-garde" may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but she just undoubtedly proved that when the all-American brand and the risk-taking model join forces, anything is possible.

Hadid stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet wearing a gauzy golden/nude-colored gown that featured an of-the-moment one-shoulder design, classic black pumps, and the controversial fashion girl-adored trend that we didn't spot anyone else on the red carpet wearing: fishnet thigh-high stockings. The on-trend detail added an unexpected touch that set the It girl apart from the rest of the attendees and proved that the major 2017 trend is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
