4 Fresh Ways to Wear This Season's Throwback Trend

12:05:00 AM

Like just about every fashion person I follow on Instagram, I've been hit hard by the gingham bug this summer. Pants, PJs, dresses, jumpsuits—piece by piece, the retro pattern is gradually taking over my closet.

And don't get me wrong: I'm not mad about it. But I'm also a little wary about veering too far into costume-y territory, especially considering the unabashed femininity of the rest of the season's biggest trends—ruffles, basket bags, cat-eye sunglasses, and the like. While the head-to-toe '60s-French-girl look is fab on some people (Jeanne Damas, I'm lookin' at you), mixing it up is more my style. Think sneakers and floaty dresses, tailored blazers and distressed denim, or vintage-y prints with modern pieces.

And it seems I'm not alone. Below, see four ways to style the biggest throwback print trends of the season—from feminine florals to monochromatic polka dots—while looking very 2017.
