There's a Reason Victoria's Secret's New Campaign Looks So Familiar
10:02:00 PMIf you've had a chance to take in Victoria's Secret's newest campaign, you'll likely have noted how beautiful the summery all-white, crochet, and lace collection looks presented on its lineup of It-girl models clustered on a bright, sunny beach. But did you also notice this angelic setup looks strangely familiar?
Exactly a year before Victoria's Secret's S/S 17 collection launched on the site, six of the models were striking the same pose on the cover of Vogue. Vogue Spain's May 2016 issue, aptly titled "The Victoria's Secret Angels present New Romance," features an almost identical casting of models posing in the sand also clad in all-white lacy slips (except, in this case, Proenza Schouler and Balmain).
In the latest iteration, models Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, Elsa Hosk, Taylor Hill, and Romee Strijd are even posed in the exact same positions as their cover shot, sporting the same expressions on their serene faces. Every detail is reproduced to a T. Their delicate gold necklaces, windswept buns, and no-makeup makeup looks are interchangeable from photo to photo—the two look like they could have been shot on the same day. Even a second photo from the original Vogue shoot, taken by photographer David Bellemere, is replicated with the same models standing together in Victoria's Secret's white collection. It's clear the uncanny similarities are not pure coincidence, but rather calculated replication—though the full story remains something of a secret.
