It's the end of an era at Vanity Fair: the magazine's editor in chief, Graydon Carter, is leaving after an impressive 25 years at the helm, the New York Times reports. He will be officially stepping down in December. 

"I want to leave while the magazine is on top,” Carter told the New York Times. "I want to leave while it’s in vibrant shape, both in the digital realm and the print realm. And I wanted to have a third act — and I thought, time is precious."

Of course, everyone will immediately focus on the next question at hand: who will replace him?  Well, the New York Times has two credible candidates: "The editorship of Vanity Fair is among the industry’s most coveted positions...and speculation about Mr. Carter’s heir has long simmered," the newspaper explains. "Adam Moss of New York magazine and Janice Min of The Hollywood Reporter are often mentioned as contenders." Only time will tell who will actually nab the coveted spot—stay tuned as we learn more.
