No One Featured in This Issue of Vogue Is Under 60

10:51:00 AM

Early this morning, Vogue Italia unveiled three October covers, starring the always-stunning Lauren Hutton. And in its pages, appropriately dubbed the "Timeless Issue," you won't find anyone featured that is under the age of 60, marking another step toward a more age-inclusive industry.

But it's not just the inclusive nature of the edition that makes it so special. It's also a record-breaking one, marking a first in the magazine's 125-year-long history. As WWD reports, Hutton, at 73 years and 11 months, is the oldest woman ever to appear on a Vogue cover, a record previously held by Tina Turner, who was 73 years and four months when she landed on the front page of Germany's edition.

Hutton knows this is a special cover, stating that it is "the most important [she] has ever done." And since she's appeared on a record of 40 Vogue covers (27 on the American Vogue, and 13 on other editions), it's not a claim to be taken lightly.

She adds in a statement that the issue “has made me feel most useful. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but it took Vogue Italia’s courage to make it true. This is a cover that can change society, because it shows a woman who is vibrant, attractive, who still laughs, and who for the first time is a woman my age.”
