Early this morning, InStyle unveiled its January issue, which is all about starting the New Year off right. And who better to cover the first glossy of 2018 than Zendaya, who never fails to offer up insightful words that are wise beyond her 21 years?

In the interview with Site Director Ruthie Friedlander, the actress and singer tackles some hard-hitting questions and opens up about the responsibility that comes with fame. "I realize that [being a role model] is actually a huge part of the job. You sign up for that. You're being watched," she shared. "You can choose to accept that and appreciate it, or you can choose not to … I choose to acknowledge it.”

Zendaya, widely known for her acting and singing career, has a new role to add to her impressive list of accomplishments: designer. Together with her stylist, Law Roach, she created a unisex fashion and accessories line, Daya by Zendaya. When asked about the brand's approach to making pieces that are gender-nonspecific, she explained, "I just felt that if I'm going to do a clothing line, that's the only way I see it being done. That's the future of fashion."

Her insightful words go along with a series of stunning photos, in which she dons futuristic, retro glam–inspired looks.
