Here’s Karlie Kloss’s Advice For Young Models
3:49:00 PMIt’s a no brainer that wonderful things happen when fearless women work together. And that’s naturally the case for the last campaign that combines some of our favorite females in fashion right now including unstoppable model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, ‘90s icons and philanthropist Christy Turlington, leading fashion photographer Cass Bird, and stylist behind countless breathtaking red carpet moments, Karla Welch. The result is Cole Haan’s "Extraordinary Women, Extraordinary Stories" campaign, a name that’s almost redundant considering this lineup.
While the photos and video diaries show the brand’s latest fall trends including lush velvet heels and textured handbags, the result is much more about these pioneers's personal experiences than the pieces themselves.
“I’m intimidated all the time,” Kloss admits in the video below, staring with Turlington who famously wrote the 25-year-old’s college recommendation letter. “Not to the point that it’s paralyzing but to the point that it makes you want to be better.”
Although Kloss, whose resume has expanded into technology, TV, and beyond since its start, is all about bettering herself, she also told Who What Wear directly what it takes to make it as a model today. “Since starting my modeling career over 10 years ago, it’s been really exciting to see the fashion industry evolve and become more accessible through social media,” says the woman with nearly seven million Instagram followers. “While hard work and dedication will always be essential for a successful fashion career, I think this personal connection with fans will only become more important for the next generation of models.”
Not sure how to start this connection? "Be true to yourself," Kloss tells us. "We, as women, tend to put too much focus on the ways we're perceived by others. I think it's more important than ever to focus more on self-love and less on what others think. By living your life rooted in love and authenticity, you're able to unlock your fullest potential."
